How to Prep Multipacks for Amazon FBA

To prep a multipack for Amazon FBA, bundle the units together securely so they cannot come apart, cover every barcode on the individual items, add a “Sold as set, do not separate” label, and put one FNSKU label for the set on the outside.

Quick answer: One multipack = one sellable unit = one FNSKU. Shrink-wrap or bag the set, hide the inner barcodes, and add a “Sold as set” label so it is never split or scanned as a single item.

Why Multipack Prep Matters

If an inner barcode is visible, a warehouse worker may scan one item instead of the set. That can lead to the set being split, inventory counts going wrong and customers receiving a single unit when they paid for a pack.

How to Prep Multipacks for Amazon FBA

  1. Check the listing. Make sure the number of units matches the Amazon listing exactly, for example a 3-pack.
  2. Bundle the units. Use shrink wrap, a sealed poly bag or a box so the set stays together. See the poly bag requirements.
  3. Cover inner barcodes. No barcode on the individual items should be scannable from the outside.
  4. Add a set label. A clear label such as “Sold as set, do not separate” or “This is a set. Do not separate.”
  5. Apply one FNSKU. The set gets the FNSKU for the multipack listing, on a flat outside surface. Learn more in FNSKU vs UPC.

Sold as Set Do Not Separate Label Tips

  • Place it where it is easy to see, close to the FNSKU.
  • Use a label that will not peel off in storage.
  • Use one wording consistently across your shipment.

Manufacturer Multipacks vs Seller-Made Bundles

A manufacturer multipack, such as a factory-sealed 3-pack, usually already has its own barcode and packaging. You still label it with your FNSKU.

A bundle you create yourself, by putting separate items together, has to follow Amazon’s bundling rules for the listing, and some brands do not allow it. Check the brand’s terms before you bundle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a “Sold as set” label on factory multipacks?

If the pack is sealed and shows only one scannable barcode, you may not. Add one if there is any chance the units could be separated.

Can I make my own multipacks?

Sometimes, if a matching listing exists and the brand allows it. Check the brand’s terms first.

How many FNSKU labels does a multipack need?

One, for the set. Inner items should have no visible barcodes.
