Case-Packed vs Individual Units: Amazon FBA Shipping Rules

In an Amazon FBA shipment, “case-packed” means every box holds the same product in the same quantity. “Individual units” means a box can hold a mix of products or quantities. Wholesale orders often suit case packs, because suppliers ship products by the case.

Quick answer: Use case-packed when each box contains one SKU in the same quantity and condition, such as 24 units of one toothpaste. Use individual units for mixed boxes. Either way, keep boxes within Amazon’s size and weight limits and label each one.

Amazon Case Pack Requirements

  • Every box in the case pack has the same SKU.
  • Every box has the same number of units.
  • All units are in the same condition and share the same expiration date where dated.
  • Every unit inside still carries its own FNSKU label.

The supplier’s original master carton can often be used as the case, as long as it meets Amazon’s box rules and shows no confusing barcodes. Cover or remove old shipping labels.

Amazon Box Size and Weight Limits for FBA

Amazon’s standard limits for boxes shipped to FBA are:

  • Size: no side longer than 25 inches, unless a single oversize unit requires a bigger box
  • Weight: no more than 50 lb per box, unless a single unit weighs more; heavy boxes need a “Team Lift” or similar label

Check the current rules in Amazon’s packaging and prep requirements before you pack.

Simple Examples

  • You order 4 cases of 12 shampoo bottles → ship as case-packed: 4 boxes × 12 units.
  • You order 30 units across 5 different products → ship as individual units in one or two mixed boxes.
  • Dated products → keep one expiration date per case; see the expiration date requirements.

Small Parcel or Pallets?

A few boxes usually go small parcel. Many boxes may be cheaper on pallets. See LTL vs SPD shipments.
